I was asked (thank you YCN!) to do a quick turnaround black and white illustration for the New York Times. It is illustrating a piece written by Simon Morrison and is (amongst other things) about how the bolshoi ballet has been a part of the Soviet propaganda machine. It is really interesting and you can read it here!
I got to make two images, one vertical for NY Times International and later a horizontal version for the NY Times (the one above).
It was a really good subject to illustrate, got lots of ideas straight away and it was great to work in black and white, something I don't do very often. I think that it gave the effect of an old photo or film.
